Cattleya schilleriana outcross #6740 ('Typo' x ['Happy Field’ x ‘Olympia']) (approximately 25 seedlings per flask). The Species: This is a small stature Brazilian species that grows from 800 to 2600 feet elevation with most found below 1800 ft. They grow in areas of high humidity both on mossy rocks and trees on the cliffs near a river. Rainfall is lower in the habitat in the winter months, but the humidity remains relatively high throughout the year. Plants can be up to 5.5" tall. This species can carry between 1 to 5 flowers that are up to3.5" when fully expanded. Culture: This does best in intermediate to warm temperatures in moderate to moderately bright light. Water heavily and fertilize regularly when actively growing and allow the roots to dry quickly. In the fall and winter months, water can be reduced but the plants should not go dry for any period of time. Fertilizer should be reduced greatly. I grow it both potted in medium bark in a basket and mounted on cork or hardwood. Repot and remounting are best done when new roots are just starting.
