Comparettia coccinea selfing #6646 (approximately 25 seedlings per flask). Species: Comparettia coccinea is a wide spread in species in Brazil and also found in Bolivia, Peru and Venezuela. This grows as an epiphyte at elevations around 1300 ft. The plants can be from 2.6 to 6.2” tall. It has an arching inflorescence from 6 to 9” long and carries 5 to 15 of the red to scarlet flowers that are about 3/4” wide. Culture: This species grows in diffuse or filtered light in intermediate to warm temperatures and does best with good air movement. They grow where there good humidity and ample rainfall. During the growing season they should not be allowed to dry out between waterings. In winter they still need mist or watering so they have a short wet/dry cycle and don't go dry for any extended period of time. They can be grown mounted if humidity is high or can be potted in an open medium that lets the roots dry. Remount or repot before the substrate breaks down. Comparettia coccinea:I do not have images of the parent plant so show here other images that show the species well. |
