Habenaria rhodocheila yellow #5391 selfing (approximately 15 seedlings per flask). The Species: This is a selfing of the Habenaria rhodocheila shown in the blooming image. The flowers are about 1.5" wide, held above the foliage on a successively blooming spike with about 1/2 the flowers open at a time. Found in Southeast Asia through China and Japan at elevations from 660 to 4300 ft as a terrestrial or lithophyte. It has a distinct seasonal growth that must be mimicked to achieve success. Culture: I have grown this species in both intermediate and warm conditions successfully. You need to provide for the seasonal dry winter conditions to succeed with this genera. I have found these do best if I deflask while in active growth. I keep them in a covered plastic try for the first couple of weeks so the humidity stays high. An inexpensive covered aluminum cake or roasting pan from the grocery store will work well. Parent: Habenaria rhodocheila yellow. |
